I have a friend that always reaches out to help people when she can in any way. She organized and managed and downright created the LimeProject to help one friend in need. She recently auctioned one of her amazing hand done eggs to help pay the vet bills for another friend. She is always there for Josh and I and has been an endless source of support and just ... I love her muchly.
She has a cat...a beautiful black and white cat that forcibly reminds me of my lost Spatz. Hydrox is a wonderful cat that is loved very much by my friend that I love.
So here's the appeal. Hydrox is ill. Currently getting help which seems to be working. But help...Vet type help? Costs money. And my friend that manages to find ways to help others ... needs a little help this time.
There is an auction at the link above for an amazingly beautiful hand made scarf. I believe there is also a paypal if you'd rather just donate.
I'm rather fond of Hydrox. I'd like to see the helper get a little help this time.
Thank you.

My darlings,
I am going to be viciously and remorselessly hacking away at the LJ list of people to which I currently subscribe.
I won't call it the "friends list" because reading you or not reading you doesn't actually make you a friend or not a friend. It just means I read you or I don't read you.
This LJ was started to keep track of people I knew IRL that I didn't see enough...and it has just gotten too big for me.
Facebook/Myspace - I probably won't cull because I don't actually read anything on there at all anyway. I don't do the apps and I check the page about once a week to make sure no one is messaging me there. I usually see one or two pages of updates - a week - so I miss 99.9% of anything posted there.
Please don't be offended or take personally if I remove myself from reading your posts on LJ.
I can always be reached by email or phone.
This culling will be taking place over the week or so.
Again, this is not meant to harm or insult or in any way comment on any relationship. This is simply me, cutting down my reading subscriptions to a manageable level.
Thank you for your time.

YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE
This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

As you all know, I am a big fan of a story blog called
frankandeddie. It's written by a friend of mine -
murnkay. I also own most of the books he's written. Strange Angel deserves it's own pimpage and I'll get there. I will.
Currently? He's writing comics. Two web comics, in fact. And, THEY ROCK!
The first is Legend of the Burrito Blade which updates Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Legend of the Burrito Blade is an epic fantasy story set in modern-day New York. It is also the story of how mythology affects us and how we effect mythology. It is also the story of how we choose sides and what those sides mean. And, you know, it has food based weaponry and silliness and action and humor and everything else you might expect. We are nearing the end of Chapter One this week (only a few weeks to go) and things are building. This story is oddly dear to my heart, because how often to you get to do a grand action comic featuring swords with burritos on the end?
Not often, my friend.
The other webcomic is Things Wrong With Me and it updates every Tuesday and Thursday. It’s a strange beast. Well not for readers here, I suppose. For folks here it is Talking Heads, done somewhere else with original characters. Of course, they also have expressions. Fancy! Things Wrong With Me is all about six friends who sit around, like we all do, and talk about life, and the strangeness that falls out of our heads.
Hey - who could describe it better than the creator?
Right now I am digging "What's Wrong With Me" more than "Burrito Blade" but Joshua is the opposite. He thinks Burrito Blade is brilliant and "What's Wrong With Me" is reminiscent of his mother and her friends talking. Which explains why I like it so much. I am reading them both avidly...daily even. Any chance I get - I read
murnkays writings - and I am never disappointed.
Check it out for yourself.

Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer 5k is organized by the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition - Delaware Chapter (NOCC-DE) to raise funds for education and awareness about this critical women's health issue. An estimated one woman in 55 will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime. Currently, there is no reliable diagnostic test for ovarian cancer, and only 25% is found in the early stages. It is very important for all women to be aware of ovarian cancer, the deadly disease that "whispers".
My sister organized a team called "Bernie's Bunch" in honor of my mother last year. They walked just three weeks after mom died.
I was the only one that didn't walk, I couldn't face it. This year, I'm walking.
I know everyone has their own fundraisers, their own causes. I know not everyone can donate. That's absolutely fine. I don't donate every time either. I can't.
If you can though, I'd really like it if "Bernie's Bunch" could raise a goodly amount in my mother's memory. She would like it, too.

chowyunsmut does it again!
The associate actually said to me that "there's technology in the cups". Now, I'm sure that, in some ways, that's probably true. I, however, began wondering just what sort of technology one would place inside the cup of a bra, and if it would enable my breasts to perhaps make phone calls or send emails. With whom would they communicate? Other breasts? Would they be able to place their own orders for new underthings? I digress. I purchased a lovely balconet bra and was one my way. No technology, but that's okay. My boobs aren't Bluetooth-enabled yet.

If you don't read her normally, you really have to friend her for this month. She's blogging During the entire month of April for RAINN (Rape And Incest National Network) in support of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. She'll be posting about sex in some way, shape or form, as part of a contest through the Grassroots Blogger Book Marketing Campaign.
Now, some participants may take this opportunity to pontificate and preach...but not our ChowYun. She'll rant a little, rave a little and you my darling readers will learn a little and PEE YOURSELF LAUGHING quite a bit as well.
Go on. Go read. I'll see you over there!

Batman, Spidey, Darth, some Troopers, some Transformers, some Cylons ... they'll all be with me. And SEVEN comic artists. Doing free art to order.
It's my favorite holiday, Free Comic Book Day!
And the next day? Sunday? It's the second time "Bernie's Bunch" will be walking in the Ovarian Cancer walk. (Bernie is ... was? well she is but she isn't HERE but she's still my mom ... ANYWAY ... Bernie is my mom's name.) Sister J and her SIL J organized a group to walk in mom's name last year and they're doing it again THIS year. The whole family walked last year. Everyone but me cause I was hosting FCBD. This year, I'm trying to do BOTH. And you could TOO! Spend the weekend with Bethany ... comics on Saturday, blisters on Sunday ... YAY!

chowyunsmut? Well. You SHOULD!

The Intro:
Hey Miss Manners!!! LICK ME!!!
Okay, pervs and pervettes. It's time for Chow Yun Smut to step up and testify on the importance of manners. I don't care which fork you use at the dinner table, I don't care if you hold the door open for the ladies, I don't care about the ongoing debate on who pays for a date. This is all about giving head.
Not only is she well written and hysterical - she's on a mission.
The Mission:
During the entire month of April, I am blogging for RAINN (Rape And Incest National Network) in support of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. At least once a week (but probably more often), I'll be posting about sex in some way, shape or form, as part of a contest through the Grassroots Blogger Book Marketing Campaign. While I'm doing this, if you could please donate to RAINN so that they may continue the work that they're doing, I would appreciate it. When doing so, if you would mention "GBBMC:08" and "chowyunsmut" in the "In Honour Of" box, it will help them track my posts and the donations that said posts generate. Yes, I am eligible to win prizes, but really, I'm doing this to raise money for RAINN. Every little bit helps.
Read her, you'll have a good time. Share her stuff with your friends. And maybe, just maybe, help out the mission too.

There's a battle going on in CA about homeschooling. And I would like very much for you to speak out and save it.
http://tori04.livejournal.com/158468.ht ml#cutid1
That, above, is the first post from Tori04 detailing what's happening. From the information in her post, homeschooling was neither legal nor illegal in CA up to now. Now, it is under attack to be made illegal and to force all children to attend public or established private schools. The media, of course, is focusing on the extreme and religious examples of homeschool families. What the media is ignoring are the parents that choose homeschool for educational, intellectual, and parenting reasons.
A quote that scares me stupid:
hThe new court decision includes passages such as –
"A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare.”
God help us all when the government starts foisting loyalty to the state as a mandatory code taught in school. Loyalty to the state. Why does that not scare the beejeezus out of more people? The primary purpose of the education system is to EDUCATE. To teach the basics and the methods to learn the more advanced. To LEARN and grow and decide for oneself.
Assemblyman Joel Anderson, who is a home school father himself, is introducing an Assembly Concurrent Resolution. The Assembly Concurrent Resolution bill number, ACR 115.
It is a resolution. It simply expresses the Legislature's opinion on the ruling. It does not change existing laws. It does not create a new law. It expresses support for private home education to go on as it has been under current education codes, and encourages the California Supreme Court to reverse the opinion.
Tori's post here is a heartfelt (an heartfelt? a heartfelt? I should have been home schooled.) request for CA residents to please speak out. Please let your representatives know that home school isn't just for the extreme religious right. This isn't just a republican conservative issue. Tell your democratic representatives to pay attention to this issue, to pass ACR 115. Once the government has the right to tell your children how to think, how to learn, then they aren't far from doing the same thing to you.

From Tori:
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is gathering feedback numbers regarding ACR 115, which I mentioned here and here.
If you are in support of homeschooling as a choice for parents, you can show you support by calling an automated line. No speaking is necessary
916-445-2841
Press "1" (English),
then "2" (calling about legislation)
then "1" (are you calling about ACR 115)
then "1" (in favor)
They made that easy.
Thank you.

Well, they are updating it and filming a new commercial. Josh and I have been invited back and will be filming March 11. This time, they hope to have our images transformed into comic figures (much like the recent E-surance commercial). IT should be a fun experience!

Who would win in a fist fight (no weapons):
Captain Jonathan Archer from Star Trek: Enterprise
or
Captain Malcolm Reynolds of Serenity
AND - Would the Brown Coats have been able to win the war if they were fighting the federation from the Star Trek universe as opposed to the central planets from the Serenity 'verse.

I am taking this poll, quick and dirty, for a work thing. Trying to determine what such sites are used. Obviously, since I am doing this ON LiveJournal, that one is going to show as the most used.
Feel free to pimp the poll to YOUR Flists and beyond. The most data in the least amount of time would be helpful. This is a public post!
